Representations of Reconciliation: Bridges, Symbols and Substance

This paper examines representations of reconciliation in the media. It explores the significance of such representations contrasting the notion of practical reconciliation with the symbolic actions of thousands of people marching for reconciliation or the focus on Indigenous rights and what is identified by some as substantive reconciliation.

Dr Peter Gale is a Lecturer in Australian Studies at the University of South Australia. He has published and presented many articles and papers both nationally and internationally. As part of a Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship located at the University of South Australia he focused on representations of the racism debate, in national and international media.
