An overview of the New Zealand criminal justice system, its development and emerging models of justice, the elevation of women to the bench and other equity issues such as alternatives for indigenous groups.

Barbara Matthews is a senior lecturer in language and literacy at the Auckland College of Education. She teaches in both the BEd and the Med programmes. Her Masters degree is in Applied linguistics. She is currently studying Law with a particular interest in Public Law and issues of equity and social justice.
